Let the max aggregate marks = $$100x$$ The student gets 4% less than 40% = 36%
=> $$frac{36}{100} imes 100x = 261$$
=> $$x = frac{261}{36} = 7.25$$ $$ herefore$$ Total marks = 100 * 7.25 = 725
