1 quintal = 100 kg => 12 quintals = 1200 kg Let the part he sold at 23% profit = $$x$$ kg => Part he sold at 13% profit = $$(1200 - x)$$ kg Total profit made by the trader = 17% => $$23x + 13 (1200 - x) = 17 imes 1200$$ => $$23x + (13 imes 1200) - 13x = 17 imes 1200$$ => $$10x = 1200 imes (17 - 13)$$ => $$x = 120 imes 4 = 480$$ kg => Ans - (C)
