Let total distance covered (both sides) = $$2d$$ km Speed of train = 40 km/hr and walking speed = 8 km/hr Using, time = distance/speed => $$frac{d}{40}+frac{d}{8}=12$$ => $$frac{6d}{40}=12$$ => $$d=12 imesfrac{40}{6}=80$$ km => Ans - (A)
