Let the old man starts his daily walking routine from point A and walks 2 km East to reach B, then turns North and walks 1 km to point C, then turns West and walks 2 km, finally turns to his right and walks 1.5 kms towards north to stop at point E. => AE = $$1.5+1=2.5$$ km $$ herefore$$ Now he is 2.5 km north with respect to the starting position. => Ans - (D)
