here the distance covered by train in 1st 2 hours = 40 x 2 = 80 km now the distance covered by train in next 4.5 hours = 60 x 4.5 = 270 km now the distance covered by train in next 3.5 hours = 70 x 3.5 = 245 km
Total distance travelled by train = 80+ 270 + 245 = 595 km Total time = 2 + 4.5 + 3.5 = 10 hours Average speed = $$frac{total distance}{total time}$$ = 595/10 = 59.5 km/hr
